AKON TAKES HOME FIRST BATCH OF AWARDS

Mika and Akon Were the Big Winners at the World Music Awards
The prestigious ceremony celebrated its 19th anniversary by returning home to Monaco

Akon took home three awards. The hip-hop star's worldwide record sales secured him the R&B artist award (ahead of such A list competitors as Fergie, Beyoncé, Timbaland and Rihanna). He was also crowned Africa's Best-Selling Artist and received the award for the World's Best-Selling Internet Artist. "You are witness to seeing me receive any kind of award for music the first time in my life", the singer stated.
