AKON NO LABEL ANTHEM
Monday saw the launch of the new non-profit political organization, No Labels, in New York.
The group purports to represent the center, but has already taken a battering of criticism, similar to the jabs aimed at comedian Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity, namely that, as Stephen Colbert said of the rally, “It’s hard to be extremely moderate. [It's] like wearing an extra medium.”
Like the rally, however, No Labels also has music on its side. The rapper Akon has penned an anthem of bipartisanship for the group, which includes such profound lyrics as:
"See a man with a blue tie. See a man with a red tie. So how about we tie ourselves together and get it done"
Akon was slated to attend the Monday No Labels launch at Columbia University (alongside New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, Joe Lieberman and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough) but did not show.
No Labels is trying to make Akon's track go viral, asking the public to download it and to create accompanying music videos. The groups asks that videos be uploaded to YouTube or the group's Facebook page.
